1937 Hermes Baby Featherweight Serial # 90431 1937 Hermes Baby Featherweight typewriter, Serial # 90431 Benjamin Esh's 1937 Hermes Baby Featherweight typewriter. 2024-04-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Benjamin Esh: 1937 Hermes Baby Featherweight Serial # 90431 Hermes Baby Feather weight. This is my most cosmetically distressed typewriter. I decided to not repaint it, but clean it thoroughly and get it back to working order. I did replace all the felts in the machine and the case.

The machine is now clean, types, the excitement is fixed, the carriage line advancement mechanism is fixed and new springs were installed (because many were missing).

A few things I'd still need to do. The paper rollers need to be replaced because they have flattened. The ribbon vibrator needs to be calibrated and lastly I may have the platen replaced.

This will continue to be a fun project this year.

I'm a software engineer in the Chicagoland area. I've been collecting "vintage" vinyl, computers, mechanical keyboards and typewriters since I was a kid. Born into an analog world, but grew up in a digital one.

My wife is a writer and I enjoy problem solving and puzzles, so naturally fixing I fell in love with fixing and maintaining typewriters and she then gets to enjoy all of these machines!
