This Underwood Junior was a hastily-made, late night eBay purchase (haven't we all done it?) and I don't regret it one bit. I was on the hunt for a Depression Era Underwood and "Vada" here is in near perfect cosmetic condition. With her minimalistic open spool covers and all.

Stripped down. No bells or whistles, as in:
- no bell
- no right margin adjuster (set to 1-inch)
- no margin release
- no back spacer
- no ribbon color selector
- no touch control
- no tabs
- no paper rest
- no left platen knob

This was the typewriter manufacturers' way of appealing to folks during hard times, when pennies were pinched and frivolity was frowned upon. A time when a mere back spacer was a luxury.

To me, this is the perfect "coffee shop" typewriter, if I'm ever bold enough to type out in public. No bell to bother people and no back spacer to make you bother with corrections. Just keep moving forward!

I love to write and found that writing on a typewriter is the most enjoyable and distraction-free way of doing it. I started with an Alphasmart, then moved to a Royalite, then to an Olympia SM5. The Olympia kept me fully satisfied for a good seven years until I got the bit by the collecting bug. Now I am slowly amassing my own personal typewriter museum. Typewriters are like personal printing presses. My partner is an engineer who can fix and clean any typewriter, so we make a great team.
