Description:
Marketplace purchase, original to family purchased from. Was not in my area so I had a friend pick it up and I got it from her a few weeks later. Specifically chosen to be a birthday gift for my sister-in-law, an English major, who requested a glossy black pre-40s typewriter specifically. She fell in love with my 1930 Corona Four and also salivated over this type of Standard/Sterling when shown pictures, I was tickled to find one at a fair price.
That said, this typewriter *stunk* when it finally landed in my hands. I've only had two others smell worse on arrival, and I'll be honest... they're still in their cases waiting to be fully de-scented. I had to use a mold inhibitor spray on the case multiple times to alleviate the bulk of the scent, then when I realized the case was no longer the issue, I moved on to cleaning every millimeter of the typer itself (exception being the decals which were fragile as hell), enjoying (/s) how much nicotine came off the thing, and it wasn't until I actually busted out some diluted Lysol that it actually started to smell better. It went with a distinct lemony scent to the new owner, and I strongly recommended she keep a sachet of her choice in the case to help bring it back to something she would better enjoy the scent of. My recommendations were lavender buds, coffee beans, or even pipe tobacco to theme it fully.
Gifted to my SIL for Birthday/Christmas (December baby) 2024. She was ecstatic. And I'm envious! I need to find one of these or a Sterling of the era to add to my SC collection.

First typewriter bought in 6/2023, now at over 30 in my collection with most recorded in the galleries. There's a special place in my heart for Smith-Coronas, blue typewriters, and typewriters from 1964 (my parents' birth year). Prefer manuals to electrics, portables to ultra portables or desktops, but will head home with anything if it's cheap enough and functional/repairable. I've successfully gifted typewriters to two siblings, a best friend, and an in-law. Keeping up with my lifelong tradition of making and repairing by hand. When not typing or working on a typewriter, I'm often reading, gardening (vegetable), preserving harvests (canning, dehydrating, freezing), knitting, sewing, writing letters/short stories, or shooting film photography. I like the slow, analog life.
