Worked fine and then the carriage string gave way.
Oh well. But this is one find specimen of the early KHM model. It reminds me of one of the typewriters my grandpa owned.

I'm an archaeologist who writes heritage books and collects Japanese ceramics as well as quite a number of typewriters that I've acquired through purchase or as gifts over the last 10 years in the Philippines as well as in the US and Japan.
