1936 Aristokrat Portable Serial # 164509 1936 Aristokrat Portable typewriter, Serial # 164509 Kevin Stallaert's 1936 Aristokrat Portable typewriter. 2021-07-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kevin Stallaert: 1936 Aristokrat Portable Serial # 164509 My brother had spotted this typewriter and told me where I could get it. I was a bit dumbfounded that I couldn't find any pictures of an Aristokrat in the TWDB. But the serial number database did have it: it's a Klein-Urania sold under a different name.

Very pretty, snappy machine. And as any aristocrat, it has a few quirks that set it apart from other typewriters: a margin release on the paper bail, a cool dial on the left side for the color setting and a carriage return lever on the right side of the paper bail.

Some minor paint damage, some minor rust and a missing symbol / description on the backspace. Everything else seems to work smoothly on this machine. A very cool find!

I'll update this entry when I have cleaned it, but I have a bit of back log right now.

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...

I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Aristokrat Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Aristokrat Serial Number page and the Aristokrat Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
