Description:
This was an opportunity buy - I had been coveting a friend's Underwood portable (with the distinct ribbon covers) and was lucky to find this Underwood Universal listed for cheap locally.
It took some fixing (rubber feet and case adjustment) but it was well worth the effort. This is a handsome machine, rather like a dapper old man dressed to the nines in timeless formal wear. It looks good from every angle.
It types beautifully, with precise key action and carriage movement, and it makes a crisp, clear impression. The rubber is good on the platen, so this machine is fully useable. I generally prefer post-War machines but am happy to make an exception for this one.
