1935 Smith Corona Standard Serial # 1C36761 1935 Smith Corona Standard typewriter, Serial # 1C36761 Benjamin Esh's 1935 Smith Corona Standard typewriter. 2024-04-21 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Benjamin Esh: 1935 Smith Corona Standard Serial # 1C36761 Smith Corona Standard. This is a recent pickup for my wife. I enjoy collecting portables, while she prefers the classic 1920's - 40's machines. I bought it at a great price, but understood there would be some repair work, which is par for the course when buying 90 year old devices.

It needed a thorough cleaning, ribbon spools, carriage spring cord, and platen knob. Other than that, for the price, I'm happy with it. It's a clean machine, which will be in full working order in no time.

This typewriter is missing the left platen knob. I'll probably create a new .gcode file and put it on thingiverse.

This machine didn't come with any ribbons, but luckily, I had some extra metal period SC branded ribbon spools laying around. After buying enough machines, I suppose this is understood and a completely normal thing....

The type resistance lever works well on this machine.

There's a Berg typewriter sticker on the side of this machine. Anyone know anything about this business?

You'll notice the red/white stripped cord around the carriage spring. The original one looked like it broke years ago, so I replaced it with the strongest/smallest rope I had at the time. After installing the new cord, it was time for more testing. The machine advances well with the spacebar, but doesn't advance well for the character keys. They must be pressed hard for the carriage to advance. More testing/fixing!

I'm a software engineer in the Chicagoland area. I've been collecting "vintage" vinyl, computers, mechanical keyboards and typewriters since I was a kid. Born into an analog world, but grew up in a digital one.

My wife is a writer and I enjoy problem solving and puzzles, so naturally fixing I fell in love with fixing and maintaining typewriters and she then gets to enjoy all of these machines!
