1935 Olympia 8 Serial # 215978 1935 Olympia 8 typewriter, Serial # 215978 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1935 Olympia 8 typewriter. 2022-08-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1935 Olympia 8 Serial # 215978 The fourth and last member of the Iberia rescue team, and a machine to enjoy. Maybe the Olympia 8 can't be compared to the great typewriters of its time. Not as famous as the Underwoods, Royals and Remingtons that dominated the world, unequivocally weird looking and maybe a wee bit below in terms of performance. And lightyears away from what Olympia would become after WWII, thus making the Olympia 8 a bit of an outsider. Or at least that's how I percieve this model, but at the same time I've come to appreciate it and it's one of my favourites.

In fact, I've liked so much my Olympia 8 that I got this one. There are several differences that make each unit interesting on its own: this one is a bit earlier and has glass keytops, different line advance lever and knobs on the carriage and a weird "counter" that I still don't know what is it for. Works fine, it's really pleasant to use and a good weapon of choice for any enthusiast.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
