Description:
A portable Oliver produced in Italy in the SIM factories in Turin. Towards the middle of the 30s, following the great success of Olivetti, some Italian companies produced typewriters. Among these, SIM of Turin, which produced portable machines with a large range of different names, and the Serio Company of Crema, producer of the Everest models. SIM machines had good success mainly due to the competitive selling price (less than half of an Olivetti MP1) but technically they were machines of poor quality. so the specimens survived until today are generally in poor condition. This example is well preserved and is in good working condition but the most attractive thing is certainly the beautiful shade of the body in red / brown marbled.

I have been an Italian typewriter collector for many many years. At that time, I loved very old typewriters from late 1800s to early 1900s. After a break of a few years I returned to collect typewriters but no longer so old, I prefer now the design of the 40's, 50's and 60's. Yes, I am an affectionate collector of Olivetti, of course, but I'm attracted to all the other brands from that period, not just Italian.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Oliver Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Oliver Serial Number page and the Oliver Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
