1934 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 1S 7954 1934 Smith Corona Silent typewriter, Serial # 1S 7954 Geir Kihle Hanssen's 1934 Smith Corona Silent typewriter. 2021-04-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Geir Kihle Hanssen: 1934 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 1S 7954 An incredibly beautiful machine. One of the first I obtained and easily one of my favorite. This machine was likely imported through Sweden and modified to have the Norwegian letter Æ, but settling for the Swedish Ö instead of the Norwegian equivalent Ø. This might be because using a O and superimpose it with a / would give a 'satisfactory' result, and I'm guessing customisation of slugs cost money per custom slug. The machine had been in the family I bought it from since they bought it, so it has only had one previous owner. The pair that owned it died and their son sold it on to me. The paint has a couple of scratches on a couple of corners that has been attempted to at least patch with some black paint, but other than that it is impeccable.

My guess is the sticker belongs to the retailer that sold the machine located in Stockholm, but that is pure guesswork.

I am a Norwegian fellow who enjoys tinkering and fixing up typewriters. One day I decided I wanted a typewriter to write letters on. I bought one that turned out not to work. I got annoyed and decided I should be able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I did it, but the rush of successfully mending such an intricate machine was like a drug. I wanted more. I decided I would try to buy non-functioning, but pretty machines, fix them and sell them before repeating the process. What I didn't expect was that I would fall in love with the machines I fix so now I suddenly find myself a bit of a collector.
