Description:
Made in early 1934. I puchased this Rheinmetall Portable from another collector via ebay. The feet of the typewriter and case were totally hartened and one of the machine had bin lost allready.
A friend of mine, who is a magnificent artist and craftsman, made me a new set of feet out of Grenadilla wood for the Typewriter and the case. ( Have to make and update some detailed pictures of them). Of course they had to be made very precise and in the same shape as the originals, to fit into the mountings in the case.
Grenadilla is an African wood, that has some similarities to Ivory. It is hard, has a dense structure that is dark with some bright spots and a self oiling characteristic, which makes an surface coating (oil, varnish) obsolete.
I overhauled some little flaws at the case and removed dust at it and in the Typewriter itself.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Rheinmetall Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Rheinmetall Serial Number page and the Rheinmetall Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
