Description:
As soon as I spotted this little beauty I knew it. This one was for my uncle.
I've never liked the Corona 3, even if it's such a famous and respected model. Mine brings bad memories from my time in England, I spent quite a lot of money in having it repaired because it was a rust bucket when I got it and it doesn't deliver the goods. But this Corona Special is different. My uncle badly wanted an Underwood 5 and a folding typewriter to put them on display side by side. I got the Underwood 5 for him almost two years ago, and this is his Christmas present for 2018. This typewriter is perfect for the task because it looks absolutely stunning, the price was one third of what´s usual for Coronas here and it's not in working condition (no need). And a special bonus: Spanish keyboard with Ñ and everything!
No doubt the Special looks like an improved version of the 3, but the bad part is that I can't test it. I think there are more serious issues than the missing drawband. That means no typeface and this typewriter has left my collection, so no upcoming updates.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.
A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Corona Special on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Corona Serial Number page and the Corona Special By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
