Description:
Picked up from fellow typewriter hunter, Mark Petersen. A 1931 Model 5 that was damaged/dropped, and re-built to later specs, including the window panels.
Mostly operational, needs a little help with the carriage lock engagement springs, cleaning, etc.
Hasty pic uploads - will fix as time permits.
One picture is us sitting on the baggage return in Columbus after surviving the harrowing carry-on experience of fitting this in the overhead space of a very small CRJ900 regional jet - but it fit! :-)
The history of the machine, as told by Mark Petersen (paraphrased), is that it is a 1931 model that pre-dates the body panels that are seen on this machine. It suffered a drop apparently, necessitating some repair to the front-left corner of the frame (a weak spot, where the shift mechanism pivots. Apparently the factory (?) reworked the machine, bringing up to later Model 5 specs, adding the body panels. I will augment the details as Mark corrects me in the comment section. :-)

I love machines, machining, creating things from nothing. Typewriters have struck a romantic chord in me, thanks to my oldest son, and I am working with him and the rest of our family to acquire, restore, repair many machines.
Our collection grows in fits and spurts - as the seasons change. We make a lot of acquisitions at estate sales, yard and garage sales, thrift stores, online, and through personal connections.
The machines that we don't want to keep in our own collection, we are selling through various outlets - Etsy, Square Market, and eventually on eBay - and unlike some sellers, we KNOW how to pack a machine for shipment! :-)
Brumfield & Sons Typewriters, at your service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Woodstock 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Woodstock Serial Number page and the Woodstock 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
