Description:
A previous owner has painted this with tan enamel paints. Removing this paint also caused the loss of the original laquer and basecoat. Hence it became a silver surfer. It is clunky and the end type bars ding the ribbon covers, but it works OK! Addendum: Thanks to Jos Legrand for pointing out the incorrect s/n typed in the specimen. There are two numbers on the machine: one is on the bottom stamped into the alloy linkage 'segment', the other, true s/n is on a stamped plate riveted on to the left of the segment when typing. According to the database, this makes it a "model E" 4 bank Underwood Portable.

I'm an opportunistic collector and user. Yep, I have a habit, but I'm in control, OK?
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Portable 4 Bank on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Portable 4 Bank By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
