Description:
This is a Royal 10 and based on the Regal serial number (which was rebuilt in 1938), it appears it was a Royal 10 from 1932 or 1933 (a serial number starting with CSY-38 [rebuilt in 38] and the CSY puts it in 1932 or 1933). This is a segment or basket shift. Segment shift was introduced with serial number 1466500, which was introduced in late 1931. Mine also has a single glass panel on the side, which was in use through serial number 1663999 (1934). My best guess is 1932.

I started my collection back in 2017 when I found a 1993 Brother WP-1250, which was very close to the typewriter I owned and used to write letters home while I was stationed in Korea serving in the US Air Force (I later discovered it was most likely the Brother WP-1150, so I picked that up). In 2018, my wife took me to one of the local antique store and I saw an old typewriter that caught my eye. My wife purchased it for me for Christmas (a 1932 Royal 10). My wife and I decided to limit my collection to 5 typewriters, so I need to sell off my surplus.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 10 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 10 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
