Description:
This machine is the first of a duo of Remington Portables that were destined to break my heart. I bought this one in an atrocious state from a junk shop in Tasmania because I thought the colour was neat and it had the remnants of a shipping label stuck to the case. It was battered and scratched, and the drawband was snapped.
These being within the purview of my restoration skills, I bought it and cleaned it up. However, while the carriage now spaces and backspaces correctly, the keys don't move it and the ribbon vibrator and spool movers don't work. I have a vague idea what is wrong here, and even where the problem lies in the sequence of mechanics, but I am untalented with escapements and this will sadly remain unrepaired until I can crack the problem.
