1929 Corona 3 Serial # B3P09452 1929 Corona 3 typewriter, Serial # B3P09452 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1929 Corona 3 typewriter. 2026-10-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1929 Corona 3 Serial # B3P09452 A Corona 4.

This came from the same lot as a Corona 3 and a Royal KHM. They were all rusted to the point of nothing moving.

I got the keys moving, replaced the missing carriage strap, and got the ribbon advance mechanism working. I didn't think I'd actually get typing samples on this as a bunch of the springs on the bottom were rusted away, but it turns out that those springs just help the keys return to the starting position, so the only fault seems to be occasionally sticking keys...

I really wanted a blue Corona 4, and I got one, but it was more rust than blue initially.

Surprisingly functional for what seemed initially like a lump of rust. This and the equally rusty Corona 3 caused me to purchase Evapo-Rust, which actually worked pretty well.

----
Facebook marketplace purchase, from Adel S., who has sold me a number of cheap, but non-functional, typewriters. From central NJ. Apparently he had a side hustle reselling stuff, but he stopped, and had a lot of stuff stored in his garage. It seems to have been a damp garage...

Looks passable here, but when I received it, it looked like it had been on the Titanic.

Not a white blotch, it's missing paint.

This side looks halfway decent.

Not a white signature, it's a gash to the paint job. It took some heroic effort to free up the margin tabs.

Note some missing springs. The escapement seems to have escaped from becoming rusted.

Trying very hard to be more judicious in my acquisitions...

I like interesting typefaces. I like tinkering with my acquisitions to make them work.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Corona 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Corona Serial Number page and the Corona 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
