1928 Contin (Remington) Portable Serial # V114017 1928 Contin (Remington) Portable typewriter, Serial # V114017 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1928 Contin (Remington) Portable typewriter. 2022-09-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1928 Contin (Remington) Portable Serial # V114017 This little typewriter may have a good looking decal that says "Contin", but there's a Remington under the paint.

According to Richard Polt, Contin made two models: one based on the Ideal (by Seidel & Naumann) with their own twist that served as a model for the Iberia, and a portable which was a Remington Portable. Alex Sandler (see link) has found one of these portables, but this one is a different Remington Portable that I'll try to identify. It was quite beaten up, but I've resurrected it. Now it works with effort, but I'm convinced there's room to improve. A beautiful machine, fortunately with better things to come for it.

Contin had their headquarters in Paris, I thought they built their typewriters in france... But here it says otherwise quite clearly

The good part is that there's not much rust down here

Looks like this machine uses a Remington s/n, which puts it in 1924

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
