Description:
Although produced by Bing Werke, a Nuremberg-based toy company, the Bing No. 2 isn't a toy but a "lehrmittelschreibmaschine," an educational tool, meant to cater to the needs of students. Produced in 1927, the tin-and-aluminum Bing No. 2 is said to be indexical of the harsh economic conditions of Depression-era Germany. This particular machine is no longer in my collection, it is now safely stabled in Cambridge Typewriter (Tom Furrier's collection).

In a parallel universe, I was once the Senior Vice-President of Design (Typewriter Division) at Ing. C. Olivetti & C.,S.p.A., Ivrea, Italy. In the real universe, I'm a Chicago-based casual collector and hunter of Olivetti typewriters, and related ephemera, publications, and film sightings.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Bing 2 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Bing Serial Number page and the Bing 2 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
