1924 Underwood Portable 3 Bank Serial # 105899 1924 Underwood Portable 3 Bank typewriter, Serial # 105899 Mark Petersen's 1924 Underwood Portable 3 Bank typewriter. 2018-07-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Petersen: 1924 Underwood Portable 3 Bank Serial # 105899 I bought this machine for $60 on eBay with "some scratches and bad feed rollers". Well, the feed rollers were indeed a nightmare, both with flat spots and one with tape all over it. But it made the machine cheaper than any 3-bank I had watched before.
I had the platen and rollers redone for $85 by JJ Short as a gift from my parents Christmas of 2013. The machine is now fully operational and a joy to type on. JJ Short did a pretty good job.

I am unsure whether the serial is 105899 or 05899. The 1 is not spaced the same, is deeper, and does not look like a 1. It is not mirrored on the other side though. If it is not a 1, this machine is from 1920. Anyone with an opinion to offer regarding this should post in the comments.

Also, my camera hates this typewriter and will not take a nice picture of it. I tried many times.

Not so sure what this serial number is, do you think that first digit is a 1 or something else?
