Description:
The tiny, well-proportioned style of this century old machine gives no hint of the resilient mechanics lurking inside. This machine was rescued (without a case) from Goodwill and is shown here after a light dusting.

I enjoy a wide variety of mechanical marvels including accordions, pump organs, and typewriters.
My mother was an amazing typist who became a legal secretary at a big NYC law firm; she could type over 100 wpm (accurately) on a manual machine. Later in her life, she taught middle school - many subjects - but typing was her favorite. Unlike teaching English, there was no pile of unpaid papers to grade.
My first typewriter was a green-on-green Underwood, purchased in the 1990s. Several decades passed before the typewriter bug bit again. Now I have a small collection of manual machines, including a Blickenderfer No. 7, a tiny 3 bank Underwood (1923), and a Smith-Corona Clipper among others. I'll eventually get them loaded up in the database.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Portable 3 Bank on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Portable 3 Bank By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
