Description:
Hi everyone! Living in Singapore, I almost never get to experience of discovering a vintage typewriter "in the wild", but this came pretty close to it! One evening in 2018 at around 3am, I was woken by a message from a friend in USA saying that he was in a vintage shop in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania which had a vintage typewriter in terrible shape for sale. My heart almost stopped when he told me it was a Dayton and asked if I wanted it. I messaged him back to grab it for me at all cost. Well that Dayton turned out to be only the 9th Dayton found so far, with the other 8 documented at Theodore Munkās blog and www.typewriterdatabase.com ! So exciting. This battleship gray Dayton has the serial number AY235, unusual because the other known 8 either have the prefix AX or BN. Out of the 9, this is the only one with the prefix AY

I live in Singapore and I love typewriters for their history, and for the sheer genius of how they were made!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Dayton Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Dayton Serial Number page and the Dayton Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
