Description:
Typewriter came to me in absolutely filthy condition. Probably had been sitting on a shelf as a display item, uncovered, for two or three decades. Fortunately cleaned on pretty well. Needs a new platen, and the on-feet adjustment is off so capital letters don't print fully. It is however, functional in all major respects, and nice little machine to type on. To be honest though, I think the Corona 3 is a bit nicer of a machine to type on. Underwood bought this design in, rather than developing it in-house and it really shows. I'm guessing they fixed most of the odd issues with the original design when they did an almost complete redesign of the model later on in 1922. This original version just has all sorts of oddness about it though, like the way the ribbon rubs across the top of the segment, the unusually heavy backspace key, etc.
