1922 Underwood Portable 3 Bank Serial # 55577 1922 Underwood Portable 3 Bank typewriter, Serial # 55577 Mighty Jabba's 1922 Underwood Portable 3 Bank typewriter. 2023-05-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mighty Jabba: 1922 Underwood Portable 3 Bank Serial # 55577 This was a relatively inexpensive eBay purchase. When I got it, it was very dirty and had a number of issues, including weirdness with the margins and a non-functioning end-of-line bell. The feed rollers were also amazingly dried out (see photo below) -- to the point that they looked like they were made of leather. I removed the old rubber and replaced it with several layers of heat-shrink tubing. That got it typing, but all of the symbols accessed with the Fig Shift were way too high relative to the others and only printed partially. So I learned how to adjust that, and while it's not perfect (particularly since I really don't have the appropriate tools), it is now much closer. Unfortunately while I was trying to fix the bell, a microscopic spring in the mechanism pinged off into oblivion, so I guess I'll have to live with a broken bell. Otherwise, it's very nice! I really love the compact design. Especially compared to other portables from around the same time, it's very tiny and cute.

BTW I found the poster shown below at All Posters and thought it would be perfect to display with my Underwood portables.

I'm relatively new to typewriter collecting, but am rapidly making up for lost time...
