Description:
At long last, my quest for a perfectly working Fox portable is over; This Sterling types like any respectable machine should. Every piece has been thoroughly cleaned and adjusted. The Sterlings were in production from roughly 1921/22 until 22/23, when the Fox Typewriter Co. liquidated. Its interesting to think that, had Fox been able to survive, its forced entry into the non-folding portable market would have ultimately allowed them the possibility to be among the first four-bank portable producers.
Of note is the quality which Fox put into its portables. The carriage is entirely on ball bearings, with no rollers, there are no brass parts like on the corona 3, there are considerably more nickel plated parts than on the Corona 3, and the action of the keystroke is light and smooth.
