1921 Corona 3 Serial # 427355 1921 Corona 3 typewriter, Serial # 427355 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1921 Corona 3 typewriter. 2026-10-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1921 Corona 3 Serial # 427355 Another Corona 3.

As you do as a new collector, sometimes you end up in acquisition mode. This is the 5th Corona 3 I have acquired, though it's the 4th I'm putting in the database. The 4th one is in very rough shape.

This one is in middling cosmetic condition. It is missing the decals on the front of the key guard, but the other decals are present. The paint was chipped quite badly, so I have touched up the paint. It was missing the paper finger on the left side, so I replaced it with one from one of the rougher Corona 3s.

It was in remarkably good mechanical condition, with only some mild stickiness in the typebars that loosened with some usage. I believe the ribbon had been replaced not too long ago, as it types quite darkly.

This being a 1921 model means it has gone back to the solid folding bar supports, after having switched to the bent sheet metal version for a few years.

This one was an Ebay purchase, and it was sent to me from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Unlike some of my other Corona 3s, the fold out paper rest is black, instead of shiny metal.

Missing the brush and oil can that are held in place by the brackets on the right. The metal buttons on the lid should have cork and helps keep the typewriter in place. Will likely replace with felt for furniture feet.

Trying very hard to be more judicious in my acquisitions...

I like interesting typefaces. I like tinkering with my acquisitions to make them work.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Corona 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Corona Serial Number page and the Corona 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
