I live in France and I’m a computer scientist, now approaching retirement, with a soft spot for vintage things. My mother, an amateur novelist, used to write her stories on an Underwood in the 1950s, and I learned to type on that machine whenever she wasn’t looking. Years later, I found and brought home two Underwoods just like hers, and despite their age, they still work beautifully. There’s something deeply satisfying about the sound and feel of typing on these old machines, reminding me that some technologies never lose their charm.
