Description:
This is a late 1919 Corona 3 with the "L-shaped" folding brackets made from stamped steel. Corona would return to the solid, cast brackets in 1920. This particular example was purchased with the more deluxe case, featuring a purple velvet interior and an small shelf for paper or documents below the typewriter compartment. Complete with Corona-branded type brush and oiler. Types quite well after quite a bit of disassembly and cleaning. Acquired as part of a pair with a 1937 Royal Model "O" portable. The Corona was used by a Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania schoolteacher and the Royal was owned by her daughter, also a schoolteacher.

In 2004, I found a 1949 Smith-Corona Clipper in a dumpster and I thought it was neat. I still think they're neat.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Corona 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Corona Serial Number page and the Corona 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
