1913 Underwood 5 Serial # 563581 1913 Underwood 5 typewriter, Serial # 563581 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1913 Underwood 5 typewriter. 2019-06-13 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1913 Underwood 5 Serial # 563581 This typewriter passed through my hands when it was in for a general servicing and refurbishment. I was astounded by the exceptional condition that this typewriter appeared to be in, despite the clear indications that this typewriter was repainted at some point. An Underwood No.5 in good condition is quite a challenge to find in itself, but mechanically, this typewriter was in notably good condition. If this typewriter was to resemble an old man, it'd be Arnold Schwarzenegger. From the glossy paint-job to the firm feel of the keys, I am doubtful that the experience this typewriter offers differs all that much from the original specification set out by it's designer. There appears to be a hand-written marker underneath the lip of the typewriter by the space-bar, saying "May 34"?
