Description:
This machine is in incredible condition. Most of the Olivers I have ever found have been quite rough and/or did not work but this one is near pristine, from the condition of the nickel, to the paint and decals. The seller told me that he acquired the machine from the Estate of the author and publisher Betty Ballantine. Whether or not this is true, what matters to me is that the machine is in great shape and works just as well!
Something else I noticed about this machine is that it does NOT have a backspacer which seems to indicate a slightly earlier machine.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Oliver 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Oliver Serial Number page and the Oliver 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
