Description:
This was an Ebay purchase.
More information to come.
Update: 9/5/2016:
When I got this machine the frame that holds the carriage rail and controls was damaged in shipping causing the carriage to become loose.and I wasn't sure what to do with it.
I found out that one of the ball bearings was missing from the carriage rail bearing race. I measured the existing one and ordered some new ball bearings. Once I replace the bearing I will post another update.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the L.C. Smith 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the L.C. Smith Serial Number page and the L.C. Smith 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
