Description:
I bought this machine for like 36 dollars. It was going to be a parts machine until I discovered (thanks to the Database) that it's from 1912; at that point it became a project instead. There was so much rust and everything was seized up, the shot pad (type-bar rest) was shot--even the inner main rail bearing had taken a crap. WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF RESTORATION! My only goal was to get her to function again. Update 2/17/25 I sold this machine.

After finding a Smith-Corona Coronet 12 at a curb-side (in Winter while walking the dog) I carried it home; after it thawed out and started coming back to life I was hooked. My interest in this hobby lead to taking two parts typewriters to create one good unit. This typewriter aliment is (pretty much) in-curable!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
