Description:
I acquired this machine from a friend - a Royal standard No. 5 with pristine white keytops. It is fully functional… sort of. While the machine works great, it’s unsuitable for typing due to a snapped main carriage rail. Because it’s in otherwise great condition, I’m planning to repair it with bracing and JB-weld. I’ll update once I do - but for now, it’s mostly decoration. I am able to give a typeface sample though, because the machine works well as long as I keep the carriage to the right side of the machine.

I am a young typewriter collector, based in Canada; I caught the bug when I came across a 1926 Underwood Standard No. 3 in an antique store, and was never able to get the darn thing out of my head. Since then, my collection has been rapidly growing. I especially like older machines, and I prefer restoring rough machines over hunting for perfect examples.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
