You can dismantle it just pressing a key, but BEWARE!, as easy to is the "dismantle operation", is hard to return it to original condition. You need to introduce the complete basket into four protruding parts of the typewriter "base". And you must do this operation in blind condition: you can not see what you are doing and must operate by "proof and error".
My advice. dismantle the Pittsurg only if your wedding ring falls inside, in order to recover it.
The backspace key, at the left side of the typewriter, is everything but ergonomic (a similar key on the right side operates the tabulator).
In my Pittsburg, the escapement is rough: some times it jumps two (or even three) positions, as you can see in the typeface specimen sample.
The bell attachment was broken during transport to USA to Buenos Aires (my fault, i guess). Nothing a soldering iron can not mend.
Despite all this flaws, the typewriter is a truly eye catcher.
