1911 Smith Premier 10-A Serial # 89785 1911 Smith Premier 10-A typewriter, Serial # 89785 Mighty Jabba's 1911 Smith Premier 10-A typewriter. 2025-06-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mighty Jabba: 1911 Smith Premier 10-A Serial # 89785 This was a rare local acquisition for me (Facebook Marketplace if I recall correctly). The guy I got it from said his grandfather used it when he was attending the local university, although judging from his age that would've been in the 1930s or 40s, so this would have been quite an old machine even then. It's in basically sound condition, except that the mainspring has snapped. I have no replacement and in any case replacing it would require a major disassembly of the machine, so I think I'm just going to leave it as it is. You can still type on it if you pull the carriage to the left with one hand, so it's actually still usable for short samples. I have the ribbon threaded in upside-down (red should be on the bottom) but it's enough of a pain that I don't really want to correct it.

Love the dual keyboard. Definitely one of the more unique looking machines in my collection, and I think the oldest.

I'm relatively new to typewriter collecting, but am rapidly making up for lost time...
