1909 Stoewer Record Serial # 9100 1909 Stoewer Record typewriter, Serial # 9100 Lukas Klein's 1909 Stoewer Record typewriter. 2023-03-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Lukas Klein: 1909 Stoewer Record Serial # 9100 This Stoewer is a very early version 1 because it has a push button for edge release where the reset lever is on later machines. The backspace button on this machine is next to the space bar where the edge release is on later machines. It also has a round emblem in the center that unfortunately is no longer visible. The serial number is 9100 but I am pretty sure that this serial number is not original. This number probably belonged to a Stoewer No.4, because all known Stoewer Record machines start with 11000 numbers. The Stoewer Record machines with this push button are all in the 11000 number range, so it is quite likely that this machine originally had an 11000 number, which would indicate that it was built in 1909. If anyone has another stoewer record with such a low number please let me know. Thanks in advance.

This is the mechanism that changes the direction of the ribbon. You have to push the latch up and then you can move the ribbon shaft freely to the right or left. This changes the direction of the ribbon. It is the same mechanism as the Stoewer No.4.

I come from southern Germany and have been collecting historical typewriters for 10 years. I'm interested in the antique machines built before 1945. All machines built after 1945 are not used for collecting but for writing

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Stoewer Record on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Stoewer Serial Number page and the Stoewer Record By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
