1909 Blickensderfer 8 Serial # 147767 1909 Blickensderfer 8 typewriter, Serial # 147767 David Richman's 1909 Blickensderfer 8 typewriter. 2025-05-18 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of David Richman: 1909 Blickensderfer 8 Serial # 147767 This is a Blickensderfer no 8 pharmisudical model. From what Iv herd from people on the database, they only made about 12 of these things, heres what makes them special.
First things first, I'm going to start off with the least significant thing in my opinion given that doesn't actually affect the mechanical bits, The pharmaceutical keyboard layout, most of the middle row's figures are tailor suited for pharmaceutical use, theres an Rx key Fluid ounce key and a lot more that im unable to put here. The second most important thing is the typewheel, which is sadly a little cracked , kind of sucks but it does appropriately match the keyboard and is for the most part in good condition, and finally, oh my goodness they shrunk the carriage, I'm pretty sure it's half sized which means that there's like a good inch of the carriage where there's just nothing going on and it really doesn't need to be there. But because I geuse they didn't want to make an entirely new carriage for this machine they they just subtracted from it, so they just needed to make an entirely new, platen and knobs for this machine, also theres a special paper clip to clip the paper directly to the platen while typing. The machine is also missing a few pieces. I don't know if it's supposed to be missing the pieces, but I've looked at other pharmaceutical models and they are missing the same pieces, so I'm assuming that the pieces that are missing are supposed to be missing, those pieces will be very apparent once you actually start looking at the pictures. There's also some weird scratches on the underneath of the machine. Looks like someone tried to carve out H l but in italics or something.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, iv probably missed something and dont know it.

Here's the case. It's pretty boring but when we got it it practically fell apart in our hands so me and my grandfather put it back together, also, it looks like it had previously fallen apart on its previous owner and they had to put it back together as well.

Here's a better picture of the machine as a whole and I have no idea how to center this carriage.

Behold the keyboard just don't breathe in too hard. You might get lead poisoning.

I took the carriage out. It's actually quite easy. Now you can see the insides and how it works, well kind of, I still don't know how it works when looking at it like this

I have been collecting and restoring typewriter's for about 2 and a half years now, I collect and restore other antiques aswell but I mainly focus on typewriters.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Blickensderfer 8 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Blickensderfer Serial Number page and the Blickensderfer 8 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
