1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model Serial # 31385 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model typewriter, Serial # 31385 Geir Kihle Hanssen's 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model typewriter. 2024-01-16 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Geir Kihle Hanssen: 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model Serial # 31385 Bought from a lady whose father used to buy antiquities on auctions in the past. Where this machine was before then is unknown, but it does have Norwegian characters. Machine had a _lot_ of rust problems and has received many hours of work to clean, derust and get all parts moving again. It now flows freely and nicely, but lacks the rubber hammer in the rear, and I'm still searching for spools for this machine.

I am a Norwegian fellow who enjoys tinkering and fixing up typewriters. One day I decided I wanted a typewriter to write letters on. I bought one that turned out not to work. I got annoyed and decided I should be able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I did it, but the rush of successfully mending such an intricate machine was like a drug. I wanted more. I decided I would try to buy non-functioning, but pretty machines, fix them and sell them before repeating the process. What I didn't expect was that I would fall in love with the machines I fix so now I suddenly find myself a bit of a collector.
