Officially it was called the Caligraph Writing Machine which was produced by the American Writing Machine Company of New York. What distinguished the No.1 from later Caligraphs was its smaller size and smaller keyboard which typed only uppercase. Most were painted black though at least one was nickel plated.

Description:

The Caligraph was just the second commercially successful typewriter produced ever, the first being the Sholes & Glidden. Officially it was called the Caligraph Writing Machine which was produced by the American Writing Machine Company of New York.
