QDL, Pica typeface.
It appears that all "RA" prefix QDLs from 1953/54/55 are outfitted with "Speed Selector", a knob for increasing/decreasing the carriage motor tension, to fine tune it to your touch. A feature often found on Royal standards of the 50's like the HH, (called "Carriage Control") but apparently only found on a portable like the QDL in those 3 years, and only on "RA" prefix QDLs.
I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.
