1966 Webster XL-500 Serial # L6462285 1966 Webster XL-500 typewriter, Serial # L6462285 Andrew Nold's 1966 Webster XL-500 typewriter. 2024-04-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Andrew Nold: 1966 Webster XL-500 Serial # L6462285 This Webster typewriter was passed to me recently. It is a nice typer in a good color! It is nearly identical to the Remington 333 also manufactured by Brother. As received, it did not type correctly. Cleaning everything didn't fix the problem. The carriage would skip and slid many spaces each time a letter was typed or the space bar was hit. To remedy this situation, I took the bottom off the typewriter and found the spacing advancing mechanism. The gear was not tight and so it was not correctly engaging the pawls. I retightened the nut located below the troublesome gear and that fixed the problem. To stop this nut from backing out again, I set the nut in super glue. Now the typewriter is working great!

A side by side of the Webster XL-500 and Remington 333 shows that these typewriters are remarkably similar. Although sold under different names, they are both nearly identical and made by Brother.
