This typewrite came to me from an antique shop that was looking to sell items it acquired from an estate. The previous owner bought it as a display piece from an auction house. Somewhere along the line, the original case got separated and it came to me bare. I obtained a suitable replacement in order to better protect it when not out being used or displayed, but it isn't an exact match and the front feet don't mate with the pins in the case. Still, it does it's job and I'm not going to complain.

When I got this, there was a serious ribbon lift offset (almost half the ribbon height), meaning that the red setting printed black and the black setting didn't print at all. Pray you never have to make such an adjustment on this typewriter 'cause 'tain't fun!

After cleaning it up and making the various adjustments, it types really nicely and the keys move quite smoothly. The carriage especially moves really nicely on its bearings. This is one typewriter I am surely glad is in my collection!

A Royal model O typewriter. This typewrite came to me from an antique shop that was looking to sell items it acquired from an estate. Serial O-784397R Located above, at the back left corner below the carriage. I don't know what the "R" means exactly, but i suspect that this designates a rebuilt unit, as was common in the era.

This was found below the paper tray. "6/29/44". Maybe when it was rebuilt? (See the note on the serial.)

As noted, this is a substitute case. The interior isn't in all that great a shape, but functionally it is in excellent condition. I will note that this isn't the exact case for this unit, since the front feet do not sit on the front studs. The back feet, though, securely lock into place.

When I got this case, the hinges were really grungy and covered with the powdery "white rust" and other grime. An hour covered with rust removing gell, followed by a good scrub with a nylon brush and cleaner to remove the slime, then a light going over with a bronze brush and they look great now!
