The tricky part of getting one of these apart is this ribbon cable that needs to be un-plugged in the right front of the machine. Don't just yank the cover off - lift the top shell just a bit and keep track of how far this cable stretches, it's not far. unsnap the keyboard and move it out of the way to access the plug and push inward at the edge of the white plug to release the cable.

I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.

I am a casual Typewriter Hunter residing in some liminal transitional spacetime between my lifetime in Arizona to the New World of PROBABLY Conneticut with a wife, two cats and about 50 typewriters. My main hunting ground is thrift stores, and I rarely pay more than $10 for a machine. My collection consists mainly of portables with cases, and they stay in the cases unless I am actively using it (usually more than one at a time). I do, however keep a handful of interesting Selectrics, including a Composer.
(frankly, I'm not going to change my avatar background because CT's flag is lame.)

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Personal Wheelwriter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Personal Wheelwriter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
