1961 Torpedo 18 Serial # 1363092 1961 Torpedo 18 typewriter, Serial # 1363092 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1961 Torpedo 18 typewriter. 2016-06-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1961 Torpedo 18 Serial # 1363092 Impressive typewriter. Maybe not the best looking one, but leaves many of its competitors far behind. IĀ“m not fully sure about the model, and the serial number is also quite puzzling, but it has to be a 60Ā“s typewriter.

I got it in quite good condition, and itĀ“s ready to type again. Top quality here, for sure!

--- UPDATE ---

IĀ“ve taken new photos because the old ones were a bit horrible. In addition, IĀ“m pretty sure this should be a Torpedo 18s, but IĀ“m quite lost with Torpedo models. Any help on that?

Regarding the typewriter itself, letĀ“s say itĀ“s different from what I thought at first. ItĀ“s not that awesome, but itĀ“s more than capable of doing a good job. Those keytops reek of smaller Remingtons, and the machine is in awesome conditon. Somehow itĀ“s been well looked after, and thereĀ“s no dust, no rust, no nothing. Only the tab set dial is broken, and I have to repair it.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Torpedo 18 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Torpedo Serial Number page and the Torpedo 18 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
