19612 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 91015783 19612 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter, Serial # 91015783 William OLLIVIER's 19612 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter. 2024-02-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of William OLLIVIER: 19612 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 91015783 This one came to me for free, but with many issues:
* extremely dirty and gunked up everywhere
* Escapement was completely gummed up and covered in grime
* Main spring broken 1/3 of the way through
* Carriage release levers bent up
* Slight rust on the paper tray and paper bale
* Missing case grommets (probably crumbled into oblivion)
* Petrified feet
* Missing spring for the Tabulator breaking pad (supposed to slow down the carriage while it slams into the next tab)
* Silent carriage return not working quite right

I've managed to clean the escapement, and sort of re-wound the main spring, pinching one broken part with the other inside the spring casing, so that the typewriter does now do what it's supposed to do.
Typing experience is still awful though, as there is congealed oil *everywhere* in the key linkages.

Software engineer by day, and typewriter newbie by night.
I got my first typewriter when I was a child, one of the kid's plastic ones, but was not satisfied.
I moved on the first real one, a portable Silver-Reed Silverette S, which I still own today, and use once in a while.
