Description:
This KMC is all-caps, but I'm not sure whether it's a "Mill" used for signal work or simply a low-budget model used for purchase orders and the like.
KMC stands for "Keyboard Margin Control," and was Remington's answer to Royal's popular Magic Margins. The KMC replaced the legendary Model 17 to compete with Royal, as the Magic Margin feature had proved popular with office typists.
I purchased it from a man whose mother used it in a civilian contractor's office during the end of WWII. The company manufactured interior rooms of U.S. Navy vessels. After the war it was surplussed (likely due to the lack of lower case characters) and she used it at home until upgrading.
It's dirty and I haven't done any work on it yet. One of the long springs used to set margins is missing and needs to be replaced in order to be fully functional. I normally clean type right away but decided to leave it dirty to have fun with the type sample.
