1917 Hammond Multiplex Serial # 202252 1917 Hammond Multiplex typewriter, Serial # 202252 Geir Kihle Hanssen's 1917 Hammond Multiplex typewriter. 2024-01-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Geir Kihle Hanssen: 1917 Hammond Multiplex Serial # 202252 An incredible condition Hammond Multiplex, ca 1917. It was found in a shed by someone helping an older man to clear up his space. The man had told the person who would end up selling to throw the machine away because it was just an old, completely outdated piece of scrap that surely nobody would want. The would-be-seller urged the man to at least try to sell it and the man agreed they would try. Thankfully! I ended up landing the highest bid on it and could come pick it up. The only thing it lacked was the rubber strip, which is easily remedied.

I am a Norwegian fellow who enjoys tinkering and fixing up typewriters. One day I decided I wanted a typewriter to write letters on. I bought one that turned out not to work. I got annoyed and decided I should be able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I did it, but the rush of successfully mending such an intricate machine was like a drug. I wanted more. I decided I would try to buy non-functioning, but pretty machines, fix them and sell them before repeating the process. What I didn't expect was that I would fall in love with the machines I fix so now I suddenly find myself a bit of a collector.
