I purchased a typewriter from a local Antique dealer/secondhand shop in Bridgwater, Somerset, UK. It was intended as a present for my wife as a decorative item for her home office. She had been a secretary and started her career using a manual typewriter. All I knew about it when I reserved it online was that it was a Smith Corona portable. When we got it home I was fascinated by the condition and history of it. It had baggage labels stuck on the case for the P & O Steam Navigation company and the British India Steam Navigation company which indicated that it was quite old. I then found the Typewriter database and with the serial number discovered that it had been made in 1941 and exported to the UK. The serial number had an X after it plus underneath Corona on the front cover was “Made in USA� which confirmed it was an export model. It is in exceptional condition with no wear on the keys or space bar. The only problem I have seen so far is a couple of key levers which are bent.
