Description:
The postwar standard lineup for the type off is almost complete! This SS/Rhythm Touch is ready for weigh-in.
This, never seen a screwdriver until today, typewriter is ready to smoke some paper. A fine example of what was going off the rails at Underwood. It ain't 1925 guys. But hey they managed to update the return lever!!!
See the ad images. This one, per the marketing, was the Rhythm Touch De Luxe. Look those ads over, they are just a sample that support this:
the SS and the RT are the same. When they came out with the SS, "rhythm touch" was the feature. In about a year and a half, they started calling the SS the RT. Same darn tooting machine. And don't go confusing the S, which was still a carriage shifter, with any of this.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood SS on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood SS By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
