Description:
A UV and smoker challenge. The Clairol Professional Pure White Hair Developer 20V (link) did the trick on all the white bits including the knobs. These are nice typewriters. They are snappy and efficient. In addition, they are robust and easy to work on. The XL-500 is a preset tab without the power spacer (see XL-747).
As I wrap this, I have the contrast of a junky S-C Corsair on the bench at the same time. Both from 1967 and oh what a difference. Is the Corsair - Profile - whatever the worst typewriter to ever wear the S-C badge?

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Webster XL-500 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Webster XL-500 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
